Grammarly Stats

The tool Grammarly captures stats as you work.

I have typed almost a half a million words of fiction in the last 2.5 years.

That was only working about 2 hours at a session, 5 days a week, 200 days a year. About 4 pages per session.

Suddenly I have two and a half novels written and a pile of various short stories.

It's true that a pile of that has ended up on the cutting room floor.  All fun stuff.

Getting Ready for Vacation

I am packing this week to head out on vacation. We go camping for two weeks with a group of close friends.

I am using these people as final reviewers for my next novel: The Broken Cage

This will be interesting. Sitting around a campfire telling me about plot holes, characters and others potential mistakes and improvements.

Mostly, I expect a lot of pointing and laughing.

Please note: I put up with this abuse to make the story better for you, my dedicated readers, both of you.

Bad Luck

“Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as "bad luck.”

The Ventura Theater

I have started a new project: The Ventura Theater

I plan on posting science fiction shorts with the help of fellow writers and voice performers.

I put up the first version of the site with the audio version of my short story, The Outer Ring. It is a 33 minute radio play.

I plan am adding more in the following week. I have set up a small recording studio in my house.

I want to use the venue to help science fiction writers and voice actors get their work out there.

I am also planning an iTunes channel after I get three episodes under our belt.

If you have a short piece of speculative fiction, that is around 5000 words or less, email me to join in.

Happy Birthday Robert Heinlein

Robert Heinlein
Today, July 7th, is Heinlein's birthday!

This fun fact led me down the web surfing hole to find an article over at Writers Write - Robert A. Heinlein's 19 Predictions For The Future.

This got me thinking and I decided to make my own predictions:
  • Obesity, depression, PTSD, epilepsy and many other things will be cured by Deep Brain Implant technology.
  • Deep brain implants will give us wireless personal high fidelity audio interfaces with no headphones.
  • Cars will become so smart and safe, 5 year old children will be delivered to kindergarten in them alone.
  • Personal AIs will be common and speak to us in our heads all the time.
  • Human/computer interfaces will move pass keyboards and voice to gesture controls.
  • Augmented Reality will become the primary education tool.
  • The next nuclear war will not involve the USA.
  • A revolution in battery life and power generation will change everything.
  • One of the richest people in the world will start a private space program and go back to the moon.
  • Political Correctness will fade and history will look back at that period as a kind of cultural weakness and even mental illness causing people to fear everything.
  • The media will be forbidden from showing murders faces or revealing their identity or risk massive fines, just as they are now forbidden from revealing the names of minors or rape victims. This will eliminate nearly all mass murderers because they will no longer be famous.
I could work this list all day.

--Gave me quite a few writing ideas...

The Outer Ring

Once I worked it out and The Outer Ring was up on Amazon for free it took no time at all to get into the Top 10 list on Amazons Short Science Fiction category.

It's still free and always will be.

I a couple week the next short story will be up:

   Kill Valerie Hume

It is just a little more to whet your whistle until Book 2: The Broken Cage is released on September 1st!

Wednesday, July 1, 2015

After a bit of shenanigans, my short story The Outer Ring is now available on Amazon for free. The minimum price they offer for Kindle books is $0.99. They do have a Price Match Policy and I have this story published on Smashwords.com for free.
