TIME ENOUGH: A Journey Through Time, Identity, and the Unexpected

My new science fiction novel, TIME ENOUGH, is available for preorder now! Official release date: December 11, 2026.

There's something both exciting and terrifying about releasing a new novel into the wild. You've spent countless hours writing, rewriting, editing, questioning your sanity, and occasionally wondering whether your characters are deliberately trying to make your life difficult.

And then, one day, it's finished.

Well, finished enough that you finally have to stop messing with it.

I'm delighted to announce that my forthcoming science fiction novel, TIME ENOUGH, is now available for preorder on Amazon, with an official release date of December 11, 2026.

What Is TIME ENOUGH About?

Meet Lathè Donner.

Lathè isn't a superhero. He isn't a soldier, a secret agent, or some brilliant physicist who accidentally invents a time machine in his garage.

He's a systems administrator at a modest hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

He has a good job, an excellent salary, a comfortable life, and a woman he's about to marry. He's a good employee, a good neighbor, and a reasonably content man.

In other words, he's the sort of person who should never become the central character in a science fiction thriller.

Unfortunately for Lathè, the universe has other plans.

Like many computer security professionals, Lathè is obsessive about protecting his identity.

That particular habit is the only thing that saves his life.

Because one day, people come looking for him.

They think he's someone else. Someone important. Someone dangerous. Someone who may not even exist in the way they imagine.

And when they come for him, everything changes.

What follows is a journey through danger, death, destruction, and the very fabric of time itself.

Lathè Donner finds himself running from forces he barely understands, caught in events that stretch far beyond the ordinary world he once knew.

They thought he was the one. They were wrong. He was better. He was far worse.

And he stood at the crossroads of time.

Why I Wrote This Book

I've always loved science fiction that starts with an ordinary person confronted by something utterly extraordinary.

Not everyone who changes the world begins with a grand destiny. Sometimes history turns on the actions of someone who was perfectly happy minding his own business.

I also love stories that explore the consequences of our decisions, especially when those consequences reach farther than anyone could possibly anticipate.

TIME ENOUGH gave me an opportunity to explore those ideas on a very large canvas.

It's a story about identity, survival, unintended consequences, and what happens when one man's life becomes entangled with forces capable of changing history.

And, of course, it's about time.

Because there's never quite as much of it as we think.

A Little Bit of Everything I Love About Science Fiction

If you enjoy science fiction with mystery, suspense, dangerous secrets, unexpected twists, and a protagonist who has to think his way through situations that would make most sensible people run screaming, I think you'll enjoy TIME ENOUGH.

It's the kind of story where the answers often lead to bigger questions, where nothing is necessarily what it seems, and where the difference between saving the world and destroying it might depend on a single decision.

I've tried to make Lathè someone readers can understand, even when the circumstances surrounding him become anything but ordinary.

He's not perfect. He's not always right. And sometimes the things he does for perfectly understandable reasons have terrible consequences.

That's part of what makes his journey interesting to me.

December 11th Is Almost Here!

After all the hours spent living with these characters, I'm looking forward to finally sharing their story.

TIME ENOUGH releases December 11, 2026, and you can preorder your copy right now.

If you've enjoyed my previous books, I hope you'll give this one a look. And if you're discovering my writing for the first time, welcome aboard.

I can't promise you a quiet ride.

But I can promise you that Lathè Donner's life is about to become considerably more interesting than he ever wanted it to be.

Preorder TIME ENOUGH on Amazon.

Thanks, as always, for reading and supporting independent science fiction.

The Cat Who Ate My Deadline

There are two kinds of writers in the world: those who work in peaceful solitude and those who own cats.I belong to the second group.

My cat, Bailey, is convinced he's my editor.

Every morning, I sit down at my computer with a fresh cup of coffee, a head full of ideas, and the foolish belief that today will be productive.

Bailey has other plans.

The moment I open my manuscript, he appears. I don't know where he comes from. He could be asleep three rooms away, but somehow he hears the distinctive sound of Microsoft Word opening.

First comes the stare. He sits beside my keyboard, watching me with the expression of an editor who has just discovered I've used the word *suddenly* four times in one paragraph.

Then comes the paw.

One enormous, furry foot lands on the keyboard, transforming my carefully crafted sentence into:

*"The alien commander raised his weapon and shouted jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj."*

Frankly, it's better than some of my dialogue.

I gently move him aside.

He returns.

I move him again.

He returns with reinforcements, namely his entire furry body, which he deposits directly across the keyboard.

Apparently, the space bar is warm, and my manuscript needs more spaces.

I attempt to negotiate.

"Look, Bailey. I have a deadline."

He blinks.

"People are waiting for this book."

He yawns.

Clearly, my editor is unimpressed.

Eventually, I resort to bribery. I offer treats, toys, and access to the forbidden cardboard box in the hallway.

Nothing works.

Bailey has editorial concerns, and apparently they can only be addressed by sitting directly on Chapter Seventeen.

Finally, in desperation, I pick him up and put him on my lap.

He immediately falls asleep.

Victory!

Except now I can't reach the keyboard without disturbing him, and every cat owner knows that waking a sleeping cat is a violation of international law.

So I sit there, motionless, watching my coffee get cold while my protagonist remains trapped in a burning spaceship.

Three hours later, my wife asks how the writing is going.

"Great," I tell her. "I've written twelve words."

"That's all?"

"Thirteen, if you count Bailey's contribution."

She looks at the sleeping animal.

"Well, at least somebody's working hard."

And that, dear readers, is why my next novel is late.

It's not writer's block.

It's editorial interference.

**P.S.** Bailey has reviewed this blog post. He deleted two paragraphs, added seventeen pages of the letter Q, and demanded more tuna.

He also insists the ending needs work.

I disagree, but he's currently sitting on the Delete key.

So we'll see.

Fast Friday Interview: Bob Welch

Bob Welch

TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF

I am a product designer, game designer, and producer, turned author. I was born and raised in Rochester, New York, but I’ve lived in New England for forty years. I’ve been a curious consumer of life through art, travel, and a career in entertainment. I’m in awe of the beauty, diversity, and complexity
of the physical world we live in, and I’m now at the age where I’m contemplating what we’re doing to it. For me, writing is a meditation, a contemplation tool, a Chataquaua of the mind. Storytelling is a powerful art that can focus issues, ideas, and emotions, allowing not only the author but also readers, to see, consider, or feel things in their own lives—things that they may have never thought about or accounted for.

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR BOOK

Into The DAX
Into The Dax is a dystopian novel set 200 years in the future in North America. It’s a thriller where science, nature, and religion collide. The story follows Kiley Van, a bio scientist hunted by a theocratic regime called the Elect. She finds refuge with an Earth-revering people called the Dax in the Adirondack mountains of what was once New York State. There, she is immersed in ancient wisdom that science has yet to divine. But the Elect catch up with her, and she finds herself in the middle of a conflict larger than herself. One that will decide the future for all living things. At a higher level, the story is about belief systems—whether spiritual, religious, or scientific—and how these beliefs become our lens on the world, shaping the way we treat other people and the Earth itself.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?

I am casting about for audiobook voices and/or an audiobook tool to use, and in-between compiling notes for a prequel and a sequel, I’m ripping up areas of my lawn and planting wildflowers for pollinators—and how could I forget my new job, marketing Into The Dax.

WHAT IS SOMETHING PEOPLE DON’T GENERALLY KNOW ABOUT
YOU?

I designed and voiced the original handheld electronic hit game, Bop It. I
was also the executive producer of international video game hits RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 and Civilization Conquests, among many other games. You can see more of my game career on my website. bobwelchauthor.com.I also walked around an entire country in one day. Can you guess which one it was?

WHAT IS A FAVORITE LESSON YOU HAVE LEARNED ABOUT THE
BUSINESS OF WRITING?

That the business of writing is not my favorite. :)   A big lesson I’ve learned is that writing and publishing a book may be the easy part. Finding an audience is a whole new skill set to learn. You have to find your needles in the haystacks.

WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU GIVE TO NEW AUTHORS?

Don’t sit at your desk too long. Write until you know what’s going to happen next, then stop. The next morning when you get up, you’ll be loaded and ready to write. It’s a good way to avoid writer's block. I picked up this technique from reading a book by Earnest Hemingway called The Garden of Eden.
Be persistent. Find an editor you can work with. Stay true to your own writing voice. Write what you know. Whether you think it’s interesting or not, your own life is full of incredible moments. Mine them, and because you lived them, those visceral moments and memories will come alive on the page.

Into the DAX

My college room mate is publishing his debut novel!

Check it out!  bobwelchauthor.com

In the fractured remains of North America, young bioscientist Kiley Van is hunted by the Elect, a theocratic regime bent on exploiting the earth in defiance of the changing climate that has unraveled civilization and devastated the natural world.

On the run and desperate to understand why she has been targeted, Kiley uncovers a buried family legacy—a biotechnology so powerful it could remake the world, for good or ill.

Finding refuge with the Dax people, an Earth-revering community, Kiley awakens to the Earth as a living entity—and to ancient knowledge that science has yet to divine.

Confronted with decisions of life and death, both personal and global, Kiley reluctantly becomes the face of resistance. But as the Elect close in, she faces an impossible choice—one that goes against everything the Dax have awakened in her, and whose consequences will determine the future of all living things.

Knee status.

Now that I am 7 weeks (53 days) post surgery, I am getting back into my normal routine. Coffee, writing, projects, working out, going for walks, reading, and watching scifi.

The very last thing for me to get back to normal is riding my bike. It has been recommended that I wait until the 100 day mark to risk the mountain bike. 47 days to go...

Back to work...

Movie: Disclosure Day

Today I am going to see Disclosure Day in the Theater.

I hope it's good. I love Emily Blunt.

Status

Sorry for the delays.

In two weeks I get my knee replaced. Pain and drugs to stop the pain have kept me from being productive. Hemingway said, "write drunk, edit sober." I tried. I seem to doze off.

Pain keeping me awake at night is the worse part.

Anyway. This summer you'll have something new... I hope.

When Cruze escapes from prison, Locke is tasked to track her down. She should be easy to find...all he's got to do is follow the trail of bodies.

Scifi Saturday: Bunker Project 12

I always love a good bad movie.Bunker Project 12 did not get a good rating, but it can still be inspirational for a scifi author with a Bunker idea!

New Monkey Wrench

Well it's time...

...for a new Monkey Wrench...

I am now scheduled for a knee replacement on March 31st, 2026. Joy.

I am trying to get this next novel to my editor by then but it is not looking likely.

I mean I could send it, but it is not up to snuff yet. Every time I go in and fix one thing I notice another thing, or have an idea for another thing. It also doesn't help that my knee won't allow me to be comfortable at my desk without changing positions every five minutes.

My wife is being extra super awesome taking care of me. She remembers how well I took care of her for her last three major repairs. (Hip, shoulder, other hip) I can still drive, because it's my left knee. But damn.

Good news is I met with my surgeon today. There will be robots involved. I was also fitted for a brace to get me to the 31st, and I got a handicapped parking permit.

--Now if only someone could go get the mail.
